Tell him to start checking out some of the online dating sites for older people and to have patience with it. If nothing else he will meet some interesting people online, and maybe something will come of it. Email people, get to know people, but he should not reveal personal information until he is VERY ready to. He does need to be careful if he is not savvy about things like this.
